About Longevity Surgical Print

Obesity is a global epidemic

In 2005 there were more than 1.6 billion overweight (Body Mass Index or BMI>25) and more than 400 million obese (BMI>30) people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.  By 2015 these numbers are expected to grow to 2.3 billion overweight and 700 million obese.  The health risks and consequences relating to obesity are serious and far-reaching.

Surgery is the most effective long-term solution

Among available obesity treatments, surgical intervention is the most effective way to achieve significant, permanent weight loss.  By taking excess weight off and keeping it off, patients can experience a dramatic reduction in serious co-morbidities such as type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, as well as greatly reduced risks of breast and colon cancer.

Current surgical options are problematic

Currently about 15 million people in the U.S. and E.U. are considered eligible for surgery. These are patients having a BMI>40 (Class III Obese), or a BMI from 35-40 (Class II Obese) and at least one serious co-morbidity,  However, due to high costs and the high risk of complications associated with current surgical procedures, less than 2% of these most-in-need patients receive treatment.

We can improve and save more lives

A safer, easier and lower cost surgical alternative would not only allow treatment of more of today's eligible patients, it would make surgery feasible for some 298 million overweight and obese people in the U.S. and E.U. alone, who are currently excluded from considering surgery as an option.

Our mission

Longevity Surgical, Inc. is a privately held company leading the field of minimally invasive devices used in general surgery and, most importantly, in the treatment of obesity.  Our innovative tools will empower more surgeons to adopt an effective new obesity procedure that is not yet readily available but promises to be far simpler, safer, and more easily performed than those in general use.  By dramatically lowering costs and reducing the risk of complications we will fulfill our mission to expand patient access worldwide to the known health benefits of weight loss surgery.
